Colour Run 24th April 2016
Bursting with colour and on your doorstep! Have fun, get dirty and raise money for your local hospice.
At the 5k Weston Hospicecare Colour Run, no one tells you off for getting your kit dirty. This is your chance to turn yourself from blank canvas to human kaleidoscope! Dressed top to toe in white, you’ll whizz through 5 colour stations where you’ll be showered in clouds of brightly coloured powder paint*. We won’t have you being squeaky clean at the start either, so you’ll be given a FREE packet of powder paint for the paint party which marks the start of the run.
*Don’t worry – it’s just dyed cornflour and totally safe!
How much does it cost?
£10 Early bird entry fee (only 200 limited availability)
£12.50 Adult (16+)
£8 Child (8 – 15 years)
These costs only just cover the cost of running the event so we rely on your personal fundraising or donations so together we can raise as much as possible to provide free care at the Hospice. Once you’ve registered we’ll send you some tips on how to boost your fundraising, or you can call us on .
The routes
The 5k route starts next to the Tropicana and you will register there on the day of the event. The route makes its way up towards Uphill then back around towards the Grand Pier and then loops back to where you started.

FAQs
What is it? The Weston Colour Run is a 5k run or walk along Weston Beach. Participants come dressed top to toe in white and as they progress through the course they get showered with brightly coloured powder paint – transforming them from a blank canvas into a human kaleidoscope! We are NOT doing a 10k route this year.
How much is it? £10 early bird entry fee (only 200 limited availability)
£12.50 adult (16+)
£8.00 child (8 – 15 years)
Where does it start? It starts near the Tropicana, Weston-super-Mare (BS23 1BE) and the route takes you along the beach towards Uphill, then back towards the Grand Pier and then loops back to finish where you started. This is a 5k distance.
When? The event starts at 2pm. Registration opens at 12.30pm
What is the minimum age? This year the minimum age for participants is 8 years old. Anyone younger than this cannot take part as they will not be covered by our insurance. Anyone aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18 and over) who also takes part in the event.
The paint – The “powder paint” is actually dyed Corn Starch. It is completely safe and conforms to EU regulations. It is non toxic and not hazardous.
- The powdered paint is not suggested for ingestion. If a participant accidentally swallows some then they should drink water
- Being a dry powder, the paint may cause some irritation but it is not an irritant
- Participants are encouraged to wear sunglasses for eye protection during the event. If paint should get in their eye, remove contact lenses (if applicable) and flush with plenty of water. We will have eye wash at the colour stations and at HQ.
- If participants have allergies to artificial colouring then it is recommended that they have a word with their doctor about exposing themselves to the paints first. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the powdered paint is available upon request by calling the Fundraising Team on
- If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, don’t forget to bring any necessary equipment on the day. For example, asthmatics may wish to bring their inhaler.
- It washes off easily
Merchandise –There will be some merchandise available to purchase on the day but why not check out our Hospice shops for items to wear at the event.
Is bag storage available? There will not be bag storage available on the day.
Are you running the free shuttle buses this year? No, we are not running the shuttle bus this year as the event is starting in a more central location.
Will there be food available to purchase? Yes, there is a kiosk right by the start serving refreshments, there are also a variety of cafes along the seafront which will be open to the public.
Will there be entertainment before the event? Yes. We will have a DJ, a warm-up and, of course, the paint party before the start!
Are there toilets on site? Yes, there will be toilets available at the Tropicana and along the promenade.
Can I register on the day? There are 1500 places available on the Weston Colour Run. If these places do not sell in advance of the event date then an “On the day” entry system will be initiated at the discretion of the Event Manager. Please note that “on the day” entry fees will be double.
Do I have to fundraise? The entry fee only covers the cost of organising the event and does not contribute towards any fundraising for the Hospice. If you don’t want to ask your friends for sponsorship, you can choose to make a personal donation when you register instead.
Is there a lost and found? Any lost items can be brought to the Registration Tent. Weston Hospicecare and its staff and volunteers take no responsibility for any lost items which are returned there.
Is there wheelchair access? There is a ramped road which gives wheelchair access onto the beach. The route is entirely on sand and not all wheelchairs will be suitable. Please check with your manufacturer.
Can we bring dogs? No dogs are permitted to take part in the event. This is because they may become a hazard to participants who choose to run the course and the paint has not been tested for its suitability on animals. There will also be powder paint being thrown – this environment is not considered safe to animals.
What should I wear? We recommend wearing something white so that you get the best effect when you get splatted during your run. You are also welcome to wear fancy dress – the sillier, the better!
Parking? North Somerset Council has kindly offered a discounted rate of £1 parking at Royal Sands Car Park and along Marine Parade on the day of the event. Simply pay for your parking via an attendant and show them your confirmation email – bargain! However with more than 2000 people expected on the day, please car share or walk if possible and leave plenty of time to register.
What if it rains?
The event will still go ahead – we’ll just get messier!
Closing date for registrations is Sunday 17th April at 11:59pm
