Our Day Hospice operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10.00am to 3.15pm and provides a 16 week programme of care and support to up to 14 patients each day.
On joining, Day Hospice patients are given the opportunity to consider what they aim to achieve as a result of attending. We will then develop an individual and personalised programme which ensures access to a full package of support meeting physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional needs. These may range from physical issues such as symptom control or improving mobility to psychological concerns such as how to cope with anxiety.
Typically, patients will spend one-on-one time with a team member to discuss any concerns they may have but the majority of their day will be spent relaxing, talking in a group environment or participating in creative activities if they choose.
Morning refreshments, a three-course lunch and afternoon tea are provided and patients can arrange complementary therapy sessions or physiotherapy activities whilst they’re here. Qi Gong with our Physiotherapist has become a popular addition to the day and patients can speak with our Chef about nutrition if this is something they are struggling with.
The whole day is informal and relaxed and allows plenty of time for mutual support and help from other patients as well as specialist Hospice staff.
